Is skin needling therapy worth it?

Is skin needling therapy worth it?

As we age, the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin lessens, causing the skin to appear tired and dull

Micro-needling treatment is performed in order to counteract this, and works by stimulating the skin’s ability to naturally produce collagen.

At Zen Medispa, we offer skin needling therapy with the use of a system known as Dermapen. The system produces excellent results, and can be used to treat a number of conditions, including:

  • stretch marks
  • enlarged pores
  • wrinkles
  • acne
  • scars

It is also a great option for those simply looking for a way to rejuvenate the overall appearance of the skin. Here’s what you need to know about this innovative treatment.

What is skin needling therapy?

Medical skin needling, performed with the use of Dermapen, is a treatment in which sterile needles are used to penetrate the skin. When the needles enter the skin, small micro-channels are formed, and the skin’s natural ability to heal itself is stimulated. The treatment also works by increasing the skin’s production of new collagen.

Medical skin needling is an effective treatment for patients who would like to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, as well as scarring caused by acne, and stretch marks.

What does the procedure involve?

During the procedure, a series of fine needles are used to penetrate the skin. The needles are attached to a device, which is moved over the surface of the skin. When the skin is damaged by the needles, the body reacts by producing new collagen and elastin so that new skin cells are generated. The skin also becomes thicker and plumper as a result of the treatment, creating a more youthful appearance.

Before undergoing treatment, we will address any questions or concerns you might have about the procedure. We may recommend that you use vitamin A and C creams to prepare your skin for up to four weeks before treatment.

The treatment itself is performed with the use of a Dermapen microneedling pen, which comprises sterile, individually-sealed needle cartridges. Each Dermapen needle tip is made up of 12 smaller needles. The depth of the needles is adjustable, which means that the treatment can be customised to suit your particular needs.

The number of treatments required depends on the condition you have chosen to treat. For facial rejuvenation, we recommend four to six treatments at four-week intervals, while treatment for acne scarring generally requires six to ten sessions at six-week intervals. Stretch marks typically require at least ten treatments at six-week intervals. Treatment sessions take between 30 and 60 minutes to complete, depending on how many areas you are having treated.

How long does recovery take?

Recovery from the procedure may take anywhere between 24 hours to a few days. In most cases, you should be able to return to your normal daily activities the day after treatment, but your recovery period will depend on your skin type, as well as the length of the needles that are used. It is quite normal to experience some redness after treatment, as well as some minor bleeding and bruising.

Is the treatment safe?

Skin needling therapy with the use of Dermapen is very safe, and can be used on all skin types. Because the needles are used just once, there is very little risk of cross infection. The vertical motion of the needles reduces discomfort considerably during treatment, and there is very little downtime required.
